The Cabbage Patch and other Great Dances

I have a co-worker who loves to sing. Not in tune, mind you. In the course of our banter for the day, I mentioned that I like Karaoke (Bean and I are great at that. Seriously. We are hilarious.), but won't sing otherwise. So he asked me, do I dance also?

I said, sure, if the tune is right. He mentioned a modern dance (I can't even remember the name), and he and everyone sitting around me proceeded to laugh their heads off imagining me doing said 'dance.' I'm pretty reserved and quiet at work; I do my job, I'm friendly to everybody, but I don't come across as wild in the least. Or the dancing type, evidently.

Not knowing what this dance was, I asked, "Is that the one that goes like this? I can do this dance!" And I did The Cabbage Patch. I think the guy next to me actually cried, he laughed so hard. But I was not done! I said, "I know all of the dances from the 80's! Who could forget The Robot??" So I did The Robot. More laughter. I don't think they've gotten over it yet.

So I'm stuck in the 80's. Damn! haha Well, there's worse places to be stuck. Actually, I think the 80's were the most incredible decade in our history, and Praise Jesus that I grew up then. After all, think of the great dances I'd have missed. haha

I didn't even get to The Electric Slide! My fave! haha

Ah, high school dances. How much fun was it to go to those? I loved dances, and went to every single one they had, except for Junior Prom. I'm pretty much the Average White Girl when it comes to actual dance moves, but still, I had fun!

I think Madonna said it best (in one of my favorite songs):

Only when I'm dancing can I feel so free
At night I lock the door where no one else can see
I'm tired of dancing here all by myself
Tonight, I want to dance with someone else..

(Into the Groove)

We always danced in huge groups, actually, if we didn't have a guy to dance with. It was more fun to dance with the girls, because we were all as silly as hell and we preferred The Girl Circle for fast songs because then we could all blend in, take in other people, and dance at our own pace.

Anyhow...my Flashback to the Classic 80's dances made me reminisce.

Have a great day...

The Cabbage Patch? I thought that was a doll! Ah - but see, the only dances I remember were the ones that Bobby and Cissy did on Lawrence Welk! You know how it is when women get to be a certain age!!!

Just kidding!

Bean calls it 'Stirring the Pot.' It's the one where you move your arms in a motion similar to stirring a huge cauldron. Remind me to show you! haha
