Here's that list of the best of science fiction, in the last 25 years.
From Entertainment Weekly, with my commentary!
25. V: THE MINISERIES (1983): I loved 'V'!! Great villain, creepy plot, and cheesy costumes (well, it was the 80's!). Great stuff.
24. GALAXY QUEST (1999): This was a nice parody of 'Star Trek,' which had a lot of humor and good actors.
23. DOCTOR WHO (1963-Present): Haven't seen. British, I believe?
22. QUANTUM LEAP (1989-1993): I had a friend in college who watched this show religiously. I saw a few episodes, and liked it.
21. FUTURAMA (1999-2003): I like everything Matt Groening does.
20. STAR WARS: CLONE WARS (2003-2005)

The most painful thing about confining this list to the last 25 years was that we couldn't include either Star Wars or The Empire Strikes Back, both of which were too old. And that left Return of the Jedi and the prequel trilogy — which no one in our Brain Trust could work up any enthusiasm for.
?? 'Return of the Jedi' would be my #1 on this list, since we're confined to the last 25 years only. And 'Revenge of the Sith' would be #2. I've never understood the lack of enthusiasm for Jedi. It had Jabba! And Endor! And the penultimate father/son duel! Han and Leia get together! Great, great film. Clone Wars was great animation, also.
19. STARSHIP TROOPERS (1997): My brothers told me this was the worst piece of garbage they ever tried to watch in the theater. I have never seen it.
18. HEROES (2006-Present): I watched this faithfully in the beginning, but lost interest as it just was missing that...zing.
17. ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND (2004)
EW said:
Sure, you could write this off as a postmodern love story, but anything that involves thought-control experiments administered via a giant silver brain scanner is most definitely science fiction.
?? I didn't quite get this film; I need to see it again. Would never call it sci-fi.
16. TOTAL RECALL (1990): I love this movie, as I love all movies made from Philip K. Dick stories. 'Minority Report' was better, but I still liked the feel of this one. That 'is it reality or a dream' plot is one of my faves.
15. FIREFLY/SERENITY (2002/2005): Never saw. Just like I never saw 'Babylon 5.'
14. CHILDREN OF MEN (2006): Note to self: Rent this!
13. THE TERMINATOR/ TERMINATOR 2 (1984 /1991): Classics, and personal faves. Changed the landscape for sci-fi, in my opinion.
12. BACK TO THE FUTURE (1985): Time travel done right! Funny, smart, and really, really well written.
11. LOST (2004-Present): *Sigh* I love 'Lost,' because it is so unique, and so original, and so...mysterious. But the myth has become bogged down, I'm afraid, and I'm not sure they can pique my interest the way they once did.
10. THE THING (1982): Hmm. Curious that I have not seen. Another to rent.
9. ALIENS (1986): Damn right! This would be my #3. After Jedi and Sith.
8. STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION (1987-1994): How I miss Jean-Luc! At one time I had this entire series on VHS, but sold it off due to space issues, and the advent of DVD. Though I have not gotten any of these yet, I probably will some day. This was the smartest entertainment I have ever seen. With incredible actors, and incredible writing. The best Trek of them all.
7. E.T. (1982): I hated this movie. Bleeeeach! Hated. Sorry, fans.
6. BRAZIL (1985): Have not seen, but have heard a lot about, all good.
5. STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN (1982): "Khaaaaaaaaannnn!" haha Part 4 was my favorite of the Trek films with the original actors; 'First Contact' was the best of them all (TNG).
4. THE X-FILES (1993-2002): My favorite TV show ever, and a HUGE influence on my interests and writing. I could never say enough good things about it. I loved every minute.
3. BLADE RUNNER (1982): The best Dick adaptation, but 'Minority Report' is close behind. Great visuals, great actor (how much do we love Harrison Ford????), great plot.
2. BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (2003-Present): I wish I could get into this, as EW sings its praises regularly. I loved the original series, but have not seen this one.
1. THE MATRIX (1999): Number one? I can see that. Clearly a landmark, brilliant, perfect film. 'Return of the Jedi' would be here for me, because, it's JEDI. I found no fault in it, ewoks be damned. haha
Great list, again, EW!
Have a great day, all.

To this day ET creeps me out...I do not know why. I love Eternal Sunshine...one of Carey's best performances...and Winslet's too!
Thursday: Creeps you out? haha For me, too sappy and boring. And ET himself was an ugly thing. Sorry. I need to see 'Sunshine' again. I don't remember much about it, except I didn't quite get it. But, I am a big Carrey and Winslet fan.
/cries that Bladerunner / Brazil aren't no.1 / no.2
Marty, I beg and plead with you to watch Brazil as soon as possible.
