Happy X Mas

For centuries, an 'X' was used to represent Christ's name. I know a lot of people, including my mother, hate to see 'Merry X Mas' because they feel someone took the 'Christ' out of 'Christmas.' But the truth is, He's never out of it. "Christ" was often written as "XP" or "Xt"; there are references in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle as far back as 1021 AD.

I was listening to Sarah Mclachlan's (one of my all-time favorite artists ever. I mean EVER.) version of John Lennon's 'Happy X Mas' and had a desire to put on the original. I love this song. Lennon was light years ahead of everyone in his generation; his death was unbelievable and sickening. I was just seven and had no idea who he was at the time (a fact my brothers tease me about to this day), but I have since come to love Lennon and the genius he was.

I love Christmas songs in general: 'Silent Night,' 'The Little Drummer Boy,' and 'Joy to the World' rank up there as absolute faves. But I like them all: the religious-themed, the Santa-themed, and the Peace-themed.

Thank You, John, for this one.

Happy X Mas (War is Over)

So this is Xmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Xmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear ones
The old and the young

A very Merry Xmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Xmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Xmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight

A very Merry Xmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Xmas
And what have we done
Another year over
A new one just begun
And so happy Xmas
We hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very Merry Xmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
War is over, if you want it
War is over now

Happy Xmas

Have a great day, All.

Yeah, it's really incredible how timeless that song is. Tomorrow I shall be sad.

Seems I should have waited until tomorrow to post this. I didn't actually remember the date. But in going to John Lennon's official site to check the lyrics, I got teary reading what Yoko Ono wrote there. It was brilliant, what she wrote. Makes me respect her where I previously had not.
