Spiderman 3

What can we say about Spiderman? He's long been a favorite in my household (my oldest brother counts Spidey as his favorite superhero), and understandably so. He's the nerdy guy that turned into a hero, and a cool one at that: flying around buildings with his webs, having incredible "spider senses" and just generally, being the hero.

In this third installment of the Spiderman film franchise, Spidey has some nice CGI webslinging moments, which were kind of cool on the one hand, but also a little slick and clearly CGI on the other. There's also lots of action, as expected, which I'll admit, by this point in my movie-viewing life, has been so overdone, it takes a really well-put-together action sequence to impress me anymore. Oh sure, it was fun to watch, but I left wanting more.

Not more of the movie-at 2 1/2 hours, it was quite long enough-just...more than what I got. In between all of the action, there was some character development, which was a good thing, except I didn't always like where the characters went to. But I've always liked the Peter Parker/Spidey story in general, so I was happy to watch more of it. There was a lot around the death of Peter's uncle, and the death of The Green Goblin (James Franco as Goblin's son...C-U-T-E!), and the theme of Revenge, and what it does to a person. In this film, we see how revenge affected just about all of the characters.

A part of the story I always liked best was the Peter/Mary Jane connection, which suffers a bit in this film. I'm like my mother on that one; I like shiny happy endings where romantic story lines are concerned. But, it's more realistic to show the messy side of relationships, and even a hero like Spidey has a mess now and then. So I applaud the realistic approach, even though I prefer the shiny happy.

All in all, I'd say Spiderman 2 is my favorite of the trilogy. If you're a Spidey fan, you'd need to see 3, as it's the end of the franchise. If you're a casual fan, I'd still recommend seeing this film, because it was good, and very entertaining.

Grade: B+

Superhero films I want to see made:

The Hulk (done right!)
Wonder Woman

Have a great day!

The Hulk - YES!!! But no thanks to Brendan Frasier, I hope that was just a rumour.

I would love to see the proper "Mr Fixit" grey hulk from the comics.

Wonder Woman? Y'know if they gave the role to any hollywood actress alive today except Jen Connelly I'd be heartbroken. No one else could do it justice (well Lynda Carter was sex on a stick but a cameo would do her now)

Hey Peej!
I hope Brendan Frasier was a rumor, too. I also heard David Duchovny. ????
I'm just hoping for NO CGI! Hire THE ROCK, or ANY BURLY WRESTLER, people! Or, okay, since in the comics he is like 9 feet and huger than any man, if they DO go the CGI route (which I know they are; bastards!), make it look good this time? Please?

Wonder Woman was a fave in childhood, you understand. Loved, loved, loved Linda Carter. Not sure who they should cast nowadays. I hear Jessica Beil is the rumor.
