This Time It's War

Thankfully, this was a war we wanted to see. Somehow, killing fictional beings is better than killing actual beings. But if you really think about it, shouldn't we mourn any killing of any kind? Well, not if the being looks as ugly as this Alien Queen looked!

It was 20 years ago today that I saw this film, 'Aliens,' in the theater. I've never had an experience 'quite' like this one. Long story, but I was in a very deep depression that summer, having just had a major surgery and being nervous about the first impression I'd make in high school. At the time, how you looked was everything. And I looked very different, after the surgery, with my shaved head and all. Some thought I was 'punk.' Unfortunately, I corrected them. ;) I should have milked that!

Talking about memories! I remember every single second of that experience. I can feel the cold metal table they laid me on in surgery, smell the sterile, cool air, and hear 'Love Touch' as it played on the radio in the nurses' office. And I can remember waking up and wishing God would just get it over with already.

So I wasn't all too jazzed to go out to a movie soon after. I wore a hat to hide the bandages, which were still on. I sat there in what had to be the WORST mood of my life. But then the film started. That laser-blue opening title, and then space. I was immediately drawn to the character of Ripley, who was strong, smart, sarcastic, and downtrodden. She had a sadness to her that I immediately identified with. Most importantly, she overcame all obstacles to win in the end. And that was when I decided that Sigourney Weaver was the best actor ever. EVER. (Well, we get over our obsessions! Sig has really faded in recent years, making crap films. And people like Gillian Anderson came along.)

I came out of the theater completely uplifted. Gone was the somber mood that had entered. In its place was an attitude of newfound determination, modeled after Ripley's iconic struggle to survive, which for her included being an incredible female role model, and to just generally kick ass. I've never loved a character quite the way I loved Ripley. I would have put her as my all-time favorite film character, but I had to acknowledge the greatness that is Darth Vader. Dear God, don't get me started on a Star Wars rant! haha My love of SW comes from a similar place. I had these same traumas as a child, and films were always my Out. That, and books. :)

So we've all seen this film, hopefully. If not, get yer butt to the Blockbuster, asap! It's still my favorite, The Original Star Wars Trilogy aside. Do you know Fanboys are calling that 'The Holy Trilogy?' That is hilarious. I couldn't agree more. ;) I guess I'm a Fangirl. Yay Me! But I digress.

I wish they'd done something for the 20 year anniversary, like re-release it in theaters. I'm not sure how I'd react today. Probably would get way over-emotional and tear up a lot. Cause I'm like that. ;)

So I became a huge James Cameron fan as a result of this film too. Well, who didn't? 'The Terminator' was already a classic, and then he delivered THIS. There are certain people I will still follow no matter what, and he's one of them.

In other news, Where did TWENTY YEARS go??

In still other news, I didn't know any of you readers then. Heck, I didn't know some of you 6 months ago. Weird how Fate works, yes? If I hadn't randomly decided to read Jane Eyre again and see if anyone else gave a rat's ass about ol' Jane (Thankfully, people did. Smiles!), I might have missed out! And if I wasn't also searching for fellow 'Alias' commentators, I wouldn't be so damned confused all the time (winks, Manatee!).
And if we all didn't link together somehow, life would be less interesting.
So the moral is: You never know what wacko you'll meet in life, so hold fast to your books, movies, TV, and music! hahaha JK

I'm in a sentimental mood lately. Something about streams and fields, I think. ha

A friend at work said I should write a Star Wars rant, 10,000 words. Hmm.
Not wise to challenge me! Cause I'll freaking DO it! haha

"Star Wars....if they could bar wars...."

Have a great day.

I think the Star Wars rant is a go, dahling. But break it up by each movie. You cant do it all at once! Lucas didnt! :) I have a few myself, such as how come there is no bathroom on the Millineum Falcon?

:)

I like that idea. Consider it done.

There's a bathroom hidden under the floorboards. Chewie likes his privacy.

And yeah, Marty, the more Star Wars the better.
