Sometimes soap is good, sometimes not

Hi All,
Not sure if any of you are Grey's Anatomy viewers...but I got hooked on this show this season and haven't been able to turn away. Sure, it's soapy at times, but it's good fun. I love how they always use a medical crisis to mirror and comment on Meredith Grey's love life. Basically, for those who don't know, this is a show set in an ER, except it's like the Bizarro ER. No George Clooney here! Strange and wonderful things happen in this place, all told by our favorite sad-sack intern, Meredith Grey. I've read complaints about Meredith's self-pitying, which are valid. But, still, she's likable. I like the other interns too, and they all have love triangles and backstories we learn more about every week. But the main crux of the show is, Meredith fell for Dr. McDreamy (Patrick Dempsey, as Derick Shepherd, who is, yes, Dreamy), who we later found out is married. Problem is, I like his wife too. Who to choose?? So far he's chosen the wife. Good guy that he is, he's trying to make it work with her, even after they had separated because she cheated on him. That's how Derick came to be with Meredith...who is now just 'a friend.' But all bets are that they'll get together eventually.
Whew! And that wasn't even HALF of the story on that show....

Anyway, I was watching that show when Bean marches in and tells me, "That's the final straw; I will never watch 'The L Word' again." Dana died. ????? Instead of doing an intelligent, courageous story about breast cancer survival, they did a half-assed, unrealistic story wherin Dana, the most relatable character on the show, is now dead.
*Angry Rant Against The L Word*
This show had such promise when it started. You had the stable couple of 7 years (Bette and Tina, who have since become antagonists), the confused girl looking for herself(Jenny, echh), who gets seduced by a gorgeous older woman (Karina Lombard!), the girl who was trying to come out (Dana), the girl who wanted the best of both worlds (Alice, Bi), and the Token Straight People (Tim and Kit). Three seasons later they have managed to: Send Tina back to being with men, Make Bette go from strong career woman to weak woman on the verge, KILL Dana, Turn Alice into a stalker/psycho/freak, Turn Kit into a Desperate Woman the likes of which we have never seen, Get rid of the gorgeous (we miss you, Karina), and...leave Jenny as she always is...annoying and a complete nutcase. Who seems to love her soapbox and loves being a victim. Who is now with a girl who is changing into a man. What?

And they 'try' to be political...but fail miserably. Five minute dialogues on the different ways to describe sex and the female organ are NOT great political commentary.
In short, the writing on this show is so..God-Awful, that if I were a lesbian I would be downright embarrassed and I would protest the show as very, very negative towards lesbians and toward women in general.
*End of Angry Rant*

Sorry; I just hate bad writing. It truly annoys me.
So there goes the Showtime channel....
As you can see though, it's a soap opera like other shows.
But trust me, I'd rather watch Meredith sleep with the wrong people every week than watch Alice go at it with a vampire. Yes, you read that right. Vampire.

Good Lord!!
And that's really all I can say about that. RIP, L Word.

Things I love about soap operas
1) There's always lots (and I mean Lots) of nookie going on
2) Someone is always married who you wish wasn't
3) Hot men abound!
4) Have Kleenex handy for that inevitable breakdown by a major character
5) There's always that heartless character..who you hate to love, but do anyway

Have a good day, folks!
