You're not going to BELIEVE this, long-time readers. Some may remember my post on 9/11/06, found here:
Postcard from the Edge: aka: Why is there a freaking SQUIRREL in my house?
In case you don't feel like reading it again, it was a tale recounting the wonderful (note sarcasm) adventure Bean and I had with a squirrel being in the house. Unbelievably, a SECOND squirrel was in the house some time later, which I neglected to write about, but perhaps should have.
Here's how my evening went:
I came in after 7:00, just getting off from work. Little Kitten (Maverick) greets me at the door as usual. The house is dark since Bean's away on vacation, so I turn on her lamp in her living room and make a beeline for the bathroom, since I had to go. I noticed that the living room looked torn up, things knocked haywire and messy. I thought, "The boys sure were rough today!" Upon coming out, Little Kitten (LK from here on out) is purring, being friendly, and just generally being himself. I say, "Where is Bubbs?" Bubbs is Bean's other cat, about a year and a half old, and a HUGE black and white cat. He is twice the size of Leia. But then, she's small for her age. Bubbs and LK generally stick together. As I come into Bean's living room, I see Bubbs up on her sofa. He is never up on her sofa. He seems to be playing with one of my stuffed animals. I don't think anything of it, since I am a stuffed animal collector and have lots sitting around on display. LK drags my Puffkins out all the time, and I find them all around the living room. I do wonder, though, how Bubbs got my squirrel stuffed animal, since it's high up on top of a bookshelf.
I almost pick it up to take it from him. Thank God I stopped! As I inspect it further, it moves, and makes that familiar squirrel-in-agony-moan. I start to panic, my heart starts to race, and I have visions of squirrels flying in my face and clawing me to death. "Where the hell is Bean when I need her??" I almost yell. Not that Bean's any better at dealing with wild squirrels. I take a deep breath, and realize that since Bubbs has the squirrel in a hold, maybe I can capture it and release it outside. If all else fails, I'll go get the neighbor and ask for his help.
So I go over and open the front door, because eventually he'll need to go outside. LK runs right out, stops at the stoop, and cries his little head off, as he has never been outside, at least not since he left his mother. I got him and put him in his room, and closed the door. For about 3 seconds I contemplated letting Leia out, as she is a mean cat sometimes, and thinks nothing of going for animals' necks, but then I remember, she didn't do anything the last time we had a squirrel, and, she has no claws, and, Bubbs seems to have it under control.
In the time it took me to get a broom (to shoo it), put LK away, and ponder about Leia vs. Bubbs, Mr. Squirrel had gotten free of Bubbs and went under the Ottoman. Hmm. Bubbs still stood guard, ready to pounce. I started sliding the Ottoman towards the open front door, hoping he'd run right out. Thankfully, when I lifted the Ottoman as I neared the door, he ran out, took one terrified look at Bubbs, and literally FLEW out of the door.
haha
I don't think anyone was injured; I think Bubbs thought he had a new play toy. Who knows how LK reacted, as he didn't seem at all interested when I came in. He loves people so he was content to be around me. And FYI; Mr. Squirrel was the messy one, not the boys. We always blame them first, but I think they understand to be fairly neat around me, cause I'm just orderly like that.
So that makes THREE FREAKING SQUIRRELS we've had in the house. We are surrounded by trees and have an open chimney, in case you wonder how they get in. Landlord is a dud and has never put a closure on the chimney. So, look for our next adventure with Mr. Squirrel. I thought it was nice of him to come back on his anniversary.
haha
Bubbs is my hero!! Yay Bubbs!
I think my heart has finally stopped pounding. Maybe. ;)
Have a great day.
