That's right kids...it's time for a review of last night's 'Grey's Anatomy.' I have to start by saying: Kate Walsh (Addison Shepherd) is stealing this show!!! She was HILARIOUS as Drunk Addison. I am still laughing at the scene where she called Miranda Bailey "Amanda." That was classic. I've always liked Addison, ever since they strayed away from the 'adultress bitch' plotline, and made her more human. As we saw from the flashback of the initial breakup of her marraige to McDreamy, she wasn't completely to blame for cheating on him. He sometimes seems to have a stick up his behind, if you get my drift. I thought it was incredibly noble of him, though, to apologize and lament the official end of the union. But did I whistle when McSteamy (the guy Addison originally cheated with, complete with ripped abs) stepped out of her bathroom? You bet I did! I hope ol' Addison finally ends up with someone who loves her back. She didn't seem to have that with Derek.
Cristina dealing with the overdone 'overprotective stepmother' was interesting, and will allow for growth in her character. But that plot has been done so many times, I'm a bit let down at the generic-ness of it. I'm not sure what's up with Bailey, as she seems to have gone all soft and odd so far this season. I guess a lot was explained in her speech to Izzie; after Bailey had her baby, she let her motherly instincts regarding her interns go, and thus, let Izzie down. Or something like that. I can't agree, as the decisions Izzie made were all hers, and no one else's. But I like Izzie still, and hope she'll stick around.
I loved the patient who had lung cancer but who had lived a completely normal and clean life. Ironies! She reminded me of a friend of mine who laments living such a clean life, and not doing more 'wild' things. I've lived this type of life myself, and I'll admit sometimes I wonder where it's gotten me. It seems like the people who don't follow the rules have more fun. I guess it all depends on how you define 'fun,' and how you define yourself. Overall I'd say I've had plenty of fun in my life; just of a different kind. After all, it's fun for me to read, and most people I know think reading is a pain in the neck. I worry for those people. ;)
I disagreed with one quote from this episode, rather strongly. I'm not a parent, so maybe I'm wrong here. But when one young patient's father says it is his duty to 'control' his child, I had to object. It's not healthy or paternal to control any human being, even your child. As a parent, I would hope you'd guide them, and offer everything you can in the way of assistance and reason. But ultimately we're each our own person, and are responsible for ourselves. I always say I'm the exact composite of my parents, because I'm so much like them both. But the truth is, I'm uniquely ME, something that no one else can ever be, or ever control. I don't even believe that God 'controls' us; this is why He gave us Free Will. I get the point of the quote; it was about a father saying he should have done more to protect his child from getting hurt. But we can't control that, either. The most important thing I learned in therapy was that we have to let go. It's not easy, but it's necessary for a healthy life.
Anyhow. And my favorite character? Meredith? She's going to 'date' both McDreamy and Finn. Well, the best of both worlds might suit her fine! At least she's dating two gorgeous guys.
In other news, 'Jericho' is interesting so far.....I'm not overwhelmed yet, but I like Skeet and the plot could go in very interesting ways.
'Six Degrees' is interesting too, but since these shows aren't really grabbing me, I may not be a faithful viewer. I might would rather go read, or something....
'Lost' will be back next week! YAY!!
And 'The Nine' might entertain. We shall see.
Have a great weekend...
And let's wish Mr. Manatee a very Happy Birthday today!! He's a hundred and twelve. So be kind. ;) (Just kidding.)
