Glued to the Tube

Hi All,

Tonight's the night! New 'Grey's Anatomy!' Thank The Maker. I watched a couple of things last night that were entertaining-

Jericho:
In a small town in Colorado, residents deal with what may be a nuclear war. They see a mushroom cloud in the distance, and they have a cryptic phone message from someone in Atlanta who may also have died from an attack. The not knowing is the worst part for these residents, as they reach near-hysteria after only a few hours. The mayor (Gerald McRainey) tries to keep everyone calm by telling them how much he cares about all of them and their great spirit. It was actually a moving speech, but slightly TV Land. Skeet Ulrich is our main character, the mayor's prodigal son who has returned after five years of doing...something mysterious. He immediately saves a bus full of children, making him the Instant Hero. We're just learning these characters, of course, so we like him, but don't quite trust him at the same time. This show reminded me of 'Invasion,' with its 'people surviving a disaster' theme. The characters on 'Invasion' dealt with the aftermath of a hurricane coupled with alien invasion, and the characters on 'Jericho' seem poised to deal with the aftermath of nuclear war coupled with small-town politics. We'll see, I guess. It may not survive being a competitor for 'Dancing with the Stars.'

The Biggest Loser:
I love this show! Due to its timeslot I may not get to watch it much, but last night it was on from 8-10, so I caught the last hour. Any show where people work hard to better themselves is a winner in my eyes. I'm not much on Reality TV (see my first letter to EW, published a few years ago) in general, but I like this one. I have a hard time believing people would let themselves go that much, but then, I understand about complusions and love of food. It's interesting that we all know exactly what to do to be happy and healthy, yet so few of us actually do it. We're too much of a fast-paced, fast-food, fast-results society. I'm not sure very many people actually stop and smell the roses anymore. But anyway, it brings tears (sap alert!) to the eye to see these people get their self-esteem back as they lose the pounds. It's more about the effort and the desire to help each other than the actual weight loss, although the trainers work these people very hard. And they get great results! It's inspiring, actually. While I don't weigh 400 pounds, I'd like to be healthier. Getting that initial motivation is the hard thing. Cause it's so much easier to sit back and eat Ben and Jerry's while watching a movie than it is to go outside for a walk. But I think the show gave me a desire to do better in that department. Wish me luck.

Dancing with the Stars:
I didn't actually get to watch much of this, as I was watching 'Jericho.' But I saw that one of the blonde girls went. I admit I had no idea who those two even were, and I think voters feel the same. As long as Joey stays around...I'm tuning in!

It'll be a happy night tonight as I get to see Meredith Grey and her wonderful neuroses again! Some consider her a whiner, but I love her. The character. She's such a dramatic one; it's always fun to watch. And I don't need to remind anyone that McDreamy is the reason to watch the show! I just hope George gets a clue. I mean, honestly! Fumbling and insecure are not good qualities in a man. We'll see...

'The Biggest Loser'

1) I can't blame them for being out of breath when running. That s*** is HARD!
2) Men can lose 20 pounds in a week. No fair! Especially when women are the ones judged so harshly for their bodies. Backwards world. That's what we live in.
3) Seeing the poor contestants try to climb a large wall was harsh. I mean, I couldn't pull myself over a wall if I tried. No upper arm strength, I tell ya!
4) I can't blame them for wanting brownies. Who doesn't love brownies?
5) Did they just advertise pizza? Wha?

Have a great day!

I was interested in Jericho...let me know in the next few weeks if it is a keeper. Of course I'll have to catch it later on DVD, say, when I am old and living in a retirement community. But until then, I'll have your updates! :)
