That's our Meredith!
The 'Grey's Anatomy' season premiere was excellent. In last season's finale:
Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) (our dark and twisty heroine) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) (McDreamy) had sex, finally, after a year of holding back (He was separated, and fell for Meredith, but his wife wanted a reconciliation, so he picked his wife).
Denny, a patient whom caring intern Izzy (Katharine Heigl) fell for, got the heart he needed, but died anyway. It was one of those 'life is full of sad irony' moments, and thousands (millions?) of women across the U.S. cried themselves silly when he died. I know I did.
Burke (Isaiah Washington) got shot, leaving in question the use of his hand for surgery. Surgery is his life. His girlfriend, Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), is the one who's all about the job, and the one who never shows a lot of sappy emotion. You have to love her for that. She's learning to share herself with him.
George (T.R. Knight)'s girlfriend told him she loves him, but he can't tell her back, because he loved Meredith, and he told her, and she rejected him. Cause Meredith is all about McDreamy.
Man! It's hard to catch people up on this show! ha ha
Bean actually watched, and wanted me to catch her up on the whole thing. I still think she was in the dark somewhat. ;)
This season opener was all about dealing with the aftermath of death. Izzie spent the episode literally on the floor, paralyzed from the loss of someone she was seriously in love with. Meanwhile, the hospital (Did I mention this is a medical drama?? Well...sort of... haha) is overrun with a viral outbreak, and Bailey (Chandra Wilson as our favorite hard-as-nails head resident) deals with a patient whose wife just died, while George and McDreamy, quarantined in the breakroom, talk about how they've been afraid to express their true feelings to those they care about.
And Meredith? She was her classic self, and I have to say I smiled the whole hour long. Sure, there were some serious moments in there, with death being the topic, but I was so glad to see my favorite dark and twisty neurotic again, I couldn't help but smile a little. I'm not sure what it is that makes me just truly love this character (It's the darkness and sadness in her. Totally.), but this is why I started watching this show, and why I continue. McDreamy is nice to look at (there's a reason he's nicknamed such), and I've gotten to like all of the characters, pretty much, but Meredith is the heart of the show. I don't agree with critics (ahem, EW) who call her whiny. I don't see where she whines. From what I see, her complaints, when she has them, are legitimate. The girl gets her heart torn apart in various ways nearly every other episode! But that's why we watch. To see how Meredith will survive.
And that was a great line from the episode. It's all about surviving, and we'll all reach The End, at some point. In the meantime, we have to deal with all of it-the good (love) and the bad (loss).
*Teenage Girl Moment*
GREY'S IS BACK! GREY'S IS BACK! HOORAY! HOORAY! THIS SHOW ROCKS!
*End of Teenage Girl Moment*
Speaking of teenage girls!
Addison (Kate Walsh)(McDreamy's wife) and Alex (Justin Chambers, nice on the eyes) had to deal with a teenage girl who had a baby and left it in a dumpster. I noticed that Bailey and Addison were oddly out of character in the episode: They both got emotional about their cases/patients. Normally, they're all business. Addison found Meredith's little black panties, naturally, so she knows. She knows her husband is lost to her. I feel torn because I love Addison too! They made her very likable, at least to me.
They showed us some nice flashbacks to when all of these characters first met, which added to the gravitas of the episode. It said to me: A chance meeting can direct the entire course of your life, whether it be good or bad. Our lives are really nothing but a series of such moments, meetings, and experiences.
And did I mention?
Meredith and McDreamy had sex!! haha
So in the very last scenes of the episode, McDreamy tells Meredith, FINALLY, that he's in love with her, and that he has been, for a long time. It was a great scene, and I could have grabbed McDreamy and never let go, he was soooo cute! Well, he was.
And Meredith? She stands there, tears in her eyes, overwhelmed.
And so another season of 'Grey's Anatomy' begins.
Watch it! If you want to see a smart drama/soap opera.

Sigh. I dated a doctor once and still cannot stomach any image of a person in a white coat. My students even yell at me for not watching the show! I just can't...argh! But at least I have caught up on things via your blog, minus the image of a man in a white coat! yay! xoxoxoxoxo
I too have never seen it. But I love that song by The Fray. I haven't watched a medical drama in ages. Unless Nip/Tuck counts. Nah, not really.
You people need to be watching 'Grey's'!!!!
It's very addictive. After ER, I swore to never watch another medical show, but Grey's isn't really a medical show. It's more about relationships with a few medical dramas thrown in.
Thursday: You dated a doctor???!! It's my DREAM to date a doctor. I love (LOVE) doctors. Long story there. I must start hanging out in the hospital. ;)
i soooo understand your teenage girl moment marty . . . seriously . . . :)
