Halloween Symbols

Halloween started as a day (Hallow's Eve) to honor those who have passed on before us (All Saints' Day is the next day), and I was thinking how the symbols really fit the idea that there is another life after this one. Perhaps this is why I love Halloween so much, because I really do live for that next life. That's not to say I don't enjoy this one. That's just to say, I think a bright, beautiful place where everything is perfect (at LAST!) is something to look forward to.

Curious that death is associated with 'the dark.' When in my reality, death isn't dark at all; in fact, it's the absence of dark. Well, I can only go by the ideas of Heaven portrayed in The Bible, and in my church, and from what my mother told me. Have mothers ever been wrong? Ha

But about those symbols? I love symbols.

Dracula-Risen from the dead, lives off the living.
Frankenstein-Risen from the dead, pieced together from the living.
Mummies-Risen from the dead, angry at their embalmers.
Zombies-Risen from the dead, cannibals, basically.
Ghosts-My favorites! Spirits of the dead.
Skeletons-Our only physicality left here on Earth, after we die.
Tombstones-Markers of our Earthly resting place.

These are a little more difficult to link:

Black Cats-My very faves, witches' cats, supposedly. Death? I don't see it. I know I'll never get over it when mine dies.

Witches-Actually mystical women who were persecuted out of ignorance and fear.

Pumpkins-Why we carve faces into them, I'm not sure. I must research!

Cauldrons-The Witch connection. I'd rather have some good stew.

Bats-Bloodsuckers, I suppose. But again to me, no animal implies death. Except maybe Junebugs. haha I am terrified of them. Bean thinks I am nuts.

Spiders-Well, they give ME the heebs, but still, not deathly.

Ah, Halloween. Hope you enjoy yours!

Have a good day.

I am with you on the black cats! My landlord's cat is half black and half coon; I have "adopted" her and she is the scariest looking cat who also happens to be the sweetest cat ever! :) I look at her and think: Halloween!
