Music for the Masses

Ah, fooled those Depeche Mode fans who thought this post was about that album! That's a great album, but I wanted to mention some others.

I recently got a copy of Echo and The Bunnymen's collection 'Songs to Learn & Sing' and have been enjoying the foray into the 80's Brit pop. Classics like 'Rescue,' The Killing Moon,' and 'Bring on the Dancing Horses' always make me think about my oldest brother being in college, because he was at the time, and he introduced us to this band. I'm glad my brother has such excellent musical taste and is always introducing us to new bands.

I also found my copy of The Arctic Monkeys' 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not,' which is a modern alternative rock album. I've heard great things about this band, from critics and from my brothers who saw them in concert. So far, I think they're a refreshing antidote to the garbage that's currently on the radio (read: pretty much unlistenable rap/pop).

I'm still listening to 'Eyes Open,' Snow Patrol's latest. They're a band I'd really love to see in concert. I started off being a fan of 'Run' but quickly have become a fan of everything of theirs I've heard.

In my car, which has no CD player and a tape player that will only play tapes which have one side blank (otherwise it bleeds into side two and sounds quite like a mess), I'm still cranking 'Confessions on a Dance Floor.' I may be finally getting a new car next week (photos to come!), and will praise the day I actually have a CD player in my car! I've never known such a luxury. haha How times change.

So that's what's on my turntable, so to speak.
Here's hoping you've got good tunes on yours!

In other news, 'Grey's Anatomy' is blowing me away this season. I know I said this before, more than once. But when every single episode is incredible, I have to praise it. Because great writing is so rare on TV, or in film. Last night's episode had some brilliant emotional moments. What I love about this show is, they'll focus on a medical drama, but what it's really about is the characters' lives and relationships. They always draw amazing parallels.

Plus, someone's always sleeping with someone. haha
Izzie and George! Sheesh. I'm not as irate as many viewers appear to be over this development, because I know it means great drama for those characters. And that's why I watch. I like the angst, pain, love, and joy that these characters go through (I almost wrote "that these people go through," smiles).

I AM irate, though, about a 'Grey's' spinoff. Because I LOVE Kate Walsh and want her with the rest of the group. Will I watch the spinoff? I'll watch for her alone, but I can't guarantee the loyalty or love I give to 'Grey's.'

I hope one day, when I finally write that 'drama' novel, that I can emulate even one-tenth of the writing that 'Grey's' puts out every week. The way these episodes are written; that's how drama should be done.

Happy Friday!

Doc says I am improved significantly with the Pneumonia, but it stays in the system for 3-4 months. So I must be careful. Cause I would never want to feel that bad again, ever in my life. My poor lungs. They'll be permanently scarred because of this. How did I get it? In December, I breathed in too much Peroxide when I dyed my hair, and I developed a bad cough. It seemed to go away, so I didn't worry. Then, I caught a cold. And another cold right after that. And then a bad cough again, which went undiagnosed for a week. Then they told me: Pneumonia. I've never felt so weak and feverish. I've never had less of an appetite. I've never had such terrible chills. And I've never lost 15 pounds in 2 weeks like that.

But, as ever, my body pulls through. Lucky for me, I have a very high tolerance for pain. I actually worked that week having Pneumonia, but I didn't know I had it. And I barely made it through. But I'm all fine now. Hooray!

The moral? I'll be a brunette for the rest of my life. haha
Damn. I prefer blonde. It's hotter. ha

Have a great weekend, All.

Echo & the Bunnymen are awesome, and I'll be seeing 'em in the summer at the Cornbury Festival! Can't wait.

I swear the only reason I keep watching Donnie Darko is just to get those first few opening bars of "The Killing Moon" into my head.
