When Pink first hit the music scene, I'll admit, I was a little bit afraid of her. All attitude and looks like she could easily kick anybody's a**. But then I got her second album, and wow. I mean, WOW. It's no secret I'm a huge fan of the Confessional Female Songwriter, and on 'M!ssundaztood,' Pink was exactly that. The music itself was a nice blend of pop and rock (Thank You, Linda Perry), but the lyrics were very personal, very honest, and really hooked me in.
Because Pink's song 'Lonely Girl' (from that same album) helped inspire me to write my very first and most personal short story (coming in novel form at some point, I promise), I'll always feel I owe a debt of grattitude. And, heck, Pink just puts our great music. I'd love to see her in concert, and she was in our backyard recently (John Paul Jones Arena in C Ville) opening for Justin Timberlake. But I wouldn't give Justin a penny of my money if he were the only performer left on the planet. Sorry; I'm just not a fan. I'd have left after Pink.
I'm waaaayy behind in getting her latest album, 'I'm Not Dead.' Her last album, 'Try This,' was poorly received, which is a shame, as I liked it a lot. It was different, but still good. I'm glad to see she's had some singles from 'I'm Not Dead,' and is back in the mainstream somewhat. We need someone to counter the crap that is current radio and Top 40.
Great songs like 'Who Knew,' 'Stupid Girls' (hilarious attack of people like Paris and Lindsey) and 'U + UR Hand' make this new(er) album a truly great listen. Of course, you have to not mind the expletives (I don't think she really gives a s***, and lets it fly), and you have to like her style of what I call Attitude Pop. Pop with a Punk attitude. She said on one of her early songs, that she's not Britney. And Thank God.
This album is highly recommended.
Grade: A+, off the scales.
Better than M!ssundaztood?
Hard to say! Equal. That's saying a lot.
'Cause M!ssundazstood is a CLASSIC.
In other news, it's my mom's birthday today!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOM!!
Have a great day, All.
