Hi All,
My training for PC Services started today. This is a job I've already been doing since last October. They broke off the group and decided that since they were hiring new people, us 'old' people that applied also had to attend training. It's been quite a morning, let me tell you.
As soon as we start introductions, Trainer introduces me as 'Trouble.' I said, "No fair, man!" But he loves to tease me about my role in his life as a trainer: I am his nemesis, he said. Feeling a bit like Lex Luthor to his Superman (ha! I got in a Superman reference!), I laughed with him on that. He teases me about this because: He helps maintain our web knowledge base, and I'm the one that always sends him suggestions and errors. It's not my fault I have an obsessive eye for detail! I really do overlook a lot of things around here. I see poor grammar and spelling all of the time, and the English Teacher in my REALLY wants to get a red pen and correct. But I just shake my head and move on. People always come by with resumes and letters for me to proofread. I'm lucky because that type of thing comes very natural to me. I always say it's because I read so much. Since I've read thousands of words on a page, I know how they're supposed to look. Well, most of the time. Unless it's a confounding word like 'necessary.' I always want to put too many c's or not enough s's.
So we go through some very basic 'Welcome to CC' stuff. Trainer takes us on a tour of the floor, to meet the managers and QA staff. I always greet them pretending I don't know them, and they laugh at me for my silliness. I've known them all for the six years I've been here. One of the managers always addresses me as 'Party Marty,' and he still does so in front of the new hires. So I have a reputation! Irony is, I've only had like, three glasses of wine this entire year. Trying to be healthier, you know. But wine is good for you! Note to self: More Wine!!
I'm glad I'm in this class with a good friend of mine. We're getting quite a few laughs over the whole thing. Plus, no phones! Yay! The bad thing about this training (which runs for 2 1/2 weeks) is:
1) I have to get up early, as it's 8-5
2) I have to get up early
3) I have to get up early
haha
I'm not a morning person. I think I'm the only kid in the world who, instead of staying awake all night on Christmas Eve, I had a hard time waking UP on Christmas morn. We actually have pictures of my brothers running in all happy and me rubbing my eyes like, "What's all the fuss over? I'm tired."
I get teased for this. Quite a bit. It's okay though, as I freely admit to this fault. But, can YOU stay up till 3 am with no sleepiness? Huh?? Cause I can. If work would not get in the way. ;)
Things I generally think about training
1) zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
2) My eyes. Somebody prop them open, like in 'A Clockwork Orange.'
3) Are we there yet?
4) This would be sooo much better with a soundtrack.
5) This would be sooo much better if...ah, never mind.
haha
Have a great day, All.
Pray for me as I 'try' to get better sleep tonight.

Just bring wine to the training. If they're calling you "trouble," than they're already expecting it and will be disappointed if you don't come through. ;)
Good luck with the new job fun!
I say this calls for some extra double shot mochas from Starbucks each morning! Baby, I want to give you sympathy, but I am teaching by 7:30am each morning. :P Early morning and teenagers? Oh its like being Superman surrounded by Kryptonite! ;) xoxoxoxo Loved this post!
Note to self: START DRINKING COFFEE AGAIN, ASAP. ;)
I remember about those early morning classes...I taught quite a few myself. It's not that I can't get up and go, it's really just that I don't want to. ;)
And David: I'm taking the wine in now..*hic*
"I see poor grammar and spelling all of the time, and the English Teacher in my REALLY wants to get a red pen and correct."
hehe...didn't you mean the English Teacher in 'me'? ;-)
Occasion is the word I always have to look up. I know there's either two c's or two s's but I can never remember which. Right now I'm taking a risk...I'm not looking it up and going with the double 'c'.
WIP: GOD DAMN IT!!!
hahaa
Yeah, I saw that typo after the fact. But really, I was demonstrating a point, and being ironic. haha (Yeah, right!)
I think you spelled occasion right.
But maybe I'm not so reliable after all! Me and my snooty English Teacher self!
ps Help me out here Thursday!
;)
crap, wip beat me to it. I was NEVER a good proofreader, but I was proud of myself that I saw that one. hee hee. Enjoy the weekend.
