I'm Going To Tell You A Secret

Hi All,
I picked up Madonna's new live CD/DVD 'I'm Going to Tell You A Secret' over the weekend. The DVD part of this we've seen before, as most of it was shown on MTV earlier this year. There was no new stuff there, really. It included a few extra scenes, which were mostly Madonna talking about herself (something she excels at) and her dancers riding bikes (???). The concert footage is great; 'Reinvention' was an excellent tour. But there's not enough of that for Bean and I; We want the whole show, uninterrupted. Instead we get a few songs here and there, with the documentary part taking up most of the film.

I've been a Madonna fan for 22 years, so I know all that I'd ever need to know about Madonna personally. What I'm really interested in is her music. It's not deep and emotional stuff; if I want that, I'll listen to Tori Amos. But it's the best dance/pop music ever made. If you want an escape on the dance floor, nobody does it like Madonna. That's always why I was such a fan. I loved the escapist music she produced. On a personal level, I think she's incredible for many reasons, but my main focus with her has always been that wonderful music.

Which brings me to the CD portion of the purchase. I read a review that said only die-hard Madonna fans would appreciate the live CD, since Madonna is known for The Experience live, and not the high-quality music. I'll admit, she's no Tori Amos or U2 live, in terms of vocal range and ability to play an instrument. But Madonna's music does sound great live, if for no other reason than that, like everything else in her life, she demands perfection. I love that about her, being a perfectionistic thinker myself. So I guess I'm a die-hard, because I loved the CD. I especially loved 'Into the Groove,' 'Holiday,' and the second-best song ever written, 'Like A Prayer.'

My connection to 'Like A Prayer' goes back to those teen years, when I'd lock myself in my room and crank up Madonna, nonstop, for hours. I'd put in her tapes and listen before I went to bed. I'd have listened at school if I'd been able (no ipods in those days). As a result of my obsessive need to always have Madonna music close by, her voice is now a source of immediate comfort when I hear it, kind of like your mother's voice is a source of peace within you. I'm not comparing Madonna to my mother; just using an example. Whatever you attach to as a source of comfort, it stays with you, if you're ME. And the album and song 'Like A Prayer' is one of my greatest sources of comfort. So the live version of 'Like A Prayer' is totally worth the $30 fee for the set.

And here you thought I was going to reveal some great secret. Much like Madonna, I'm doing no such thing! haha Actually, I don't have secrets. I'm way too honest and open. But anyway, the CD was worth having, for a Madonna fan.

In other news, don't bother with 'Basic Instinct 2.' Bean and I rented this PURELY for the sex, and there was very little of that. We didn't even bother with the plot because it was the same as the original, just set in another country. Pretty lame, Sharon.

Oh, and if you happen by the newsstands today, check out page 4 of the latest Entertainment Weekly. That 'Obsessive Fan of the Week?' That's me. Somewhere, Superman smiles. ;)

Madonna: Saint or Sinner?
1) Wore cool yet slutty attire in the 80's-Sinner
2) Now married, with kids, and all 'spiritual'-Saint
3) Made 'Evita'-Saint
4) Made'Body of Evidence'-Sinner
5) Wrote 'SEX' book-Sinner with poor taste

haha
JK with the list. I don't care what she is, she's high on my list of people.

Have a great day...

Saint for making Evita? If I recall correctly not everyone thought so at the time. They didn't want someone as 'risque' as Madonna playing someone as wholesome-esque as Evita.

Sorry, I didn't have a lot to add to a post about Madonna. That's the best I could do. I like her on the radio occasionally, but I don't have the passion for her music that you clearly do.

Evita was considered a saint in her country...thus...Madonna playing a saint....

But I didn't mean that literally.
There was a lot of controversy over her being cast in the role.
But she was incredible in the role.

My favorite Madonna movie is her documentary, "Truth or Dare." It's got that whole cringe-worthy Madonna/Kevin Costner moment. It'd be hard to make another documentary that was as good as that.

'Truth or Dare' was the best doc so far...but even with that, I wanted just the concert. But that's just me!
