What Would Scully Do?

Wayne Federman: It's actually... It's a writer-slash-producer.
Mulder: Well, that's actually just a hindrance-slash-pain-in-the-neck.

'Hollywood A.D.'
'The X Files'

Hi All,
I think I'll add Great Quotes to my posts every now and then. Why? Because there are way too many out there. And I love great quotes.
I think one reason I've been especially bummed about the TV season ending was, it took with it the last great drama on the air. When 'The X Files' ended, I was okay because we had 'Alias.' Now that Scully and Mulder and Sydney and Vaughn are gone...where are the great characters? I really haven't been able to get into shows like '24' or 'CSI' or any of those, although I'm sure they're highly entertaining. I love 'Lost,' but not the way I loved 'X Files.' If you read my first novel, The Sensation Inside, you'll see major XF influence. I'd say most of my story writing is influenced by XF. I was reading some of these great XF quotes the other day and was reminded what a truly perfect show this was/is. So you can look forward to more of those. Witty and timeless. And smart! I think Intelligence and Humor are the best qualities, EVER. I am such a nerd. haha

We watched The X Files Movie the other night, as we'd exhausted our Netflix choices. This was actually a great movie, watching it years later and far after the fact. I remember when I saw it in the theater, I was disappointed because I wanted the movie to be like an episode of the show, dealing with spooky stuff. The film dealt more with the mythology that the show created, which was still intriguing, but wasn't quite what I wanted from the film. Watching it now, though, I loved it. Even the mythology stuff, which deals mainly with little grey men (as Mulder pointed out, they're grey, not green). I was reminded how much I miss Mulder and Scully, the two most well-developed and interesting characters ever. It's nearly impossible to determine who I like more: Scully the Rational One who came to believe because she had no choice, or Mulder, the Ultimate Believer. I don't think I can pick between the two. Mulder is my Ultimate Guy: smart, funny, and wildly passionate about things he believes in. And, David Duchovny is flat out beautiful to look at. But then there's Scully: my brainy, genius heroine! I miss Gillian Anderson, who is unmatched in acting ability among actresses (Jennifer Garner comes close),
except she hasn't done much since XF went off the air. Anyway, loved seeing the movie again. It reminded me what the best in entertainment looks like.

As a stark contrast, I also saw one of the worst in entertainment recently: 'Aeon Flux.' Bean told me not to bother with it, that it looked like crap.
Well, I love comic book character movies, so I gave it a shot. I think I should have given myself a shot instead! This movie took great pains to look 'cool' and 'futuristic,' but the only thing it succeeded in was in being a terrible rip-off of 'Blade Runner' (which is a classic). I wanted to root for Charlize Theron's Aeon; after all, the MTV cartoon was much-loved by comics fans. At least, I think it was? But I could not get into this convoluted, boring piece of poorly done special effects. There were some nifty things: blades of grass that are little knives (ouch!), little marbles that come when whistled to and explode when commanded, and, for the boys I guess, Charlize and those whorey outfits. Haha Bean hated the costumes. I can't say I was a big fan either. We laugh though because my sister-in-law went as Aeon Flux for Halloween one year.
I wish we could see THAT picture! My sister-in-law is a very normal woman; not the whorey type. I guess she decided to slut it up that night. Ha Actually, 'Aeon' wasn't the WORST I've ever seen. It was just very dull and uninteresting, despite attempts to be The Matrix or some such.
I think so many of these films have the same plot: tragic event prompts hero, hero has evil genius to conquer, hero wins in the end, and along the way, hero finds a love interest. I really should try and write one of these types of stories; the formula is pretty simple. I like the unexpected too much, though, and the mythic, so I don't think formulaic would work for me. Maybe I'll give it a try one day for fun. Garner needs a good film role. So does Anderson!

The X Files: Fight The Future: A+
Aeon Flux: D

Interesting Superhero Plots
1) Is it true that Batwoman is a lesbian? What? Somewhere, fanboys cry themselves to sleep.
2) Well, at least fanboys have Wonder Woman! Wait...Amazonian Warrior...handy with tools....Open that closet!
3) Hulk becomes a wrestler, but has to quit due to 'the constant killing of opponents.'
4) The Green Lantern finds out his ring really came from a Cracker Jacks box.
5) Captain America decides he'd rather be Australian. G'day, Mate!

haha

Have a great day!

I miss the X-Files too, especially Gillian Anderson. Even though I've watched each ep literally dozens of times, I really don't get tired of them. It's kinda like listening to your favorite classic rock song. Everytime you hear it, you gotta sing along. If I'm channel surfing and I come across an X-files ep, I usually will stop and bask in that wonderful Mulder/Scully chemistry. Good times. :)

Oh, I had to laugh at your list! And hey, Wonder Woman comes from an island of women. You know there's some sapphic love goin' on there.

I was kidding about WW. But really...the case could be made. ;)

Reruns for you: Law and Order, at least the ones with the older cop, Lenny. It's not the scifi or thriller stuff you like, but the quotes you can get from that show are great. Lenny's one-liners are often worth a scream.

As for the cat, yeah, figures there'd be one more. LOL!
