Identity

Hi All,

If you haven't seen the film 'Identity,' you need to.
Run, (don't walk) to your nearest video store and rent it.
Put it in your Netflix queue.
Why should you watch it?
Do you like suspense? Drama?
A movie that's very well-put-together?
It's a little bit horror....a little bit mindf***. Pardon the language. But that's what it is. Very psychological, and incredible.
John Cusack stars. Need I say more?

Identity.
I had never even heard of this film, when Bean was trying to think of good horror movies we could rent. She recommended this one. So I watched. But it's much more than 'horror.'

There are 13 primary characters in this film:
1) Ed (Cusack)- an ex-cop, now a limo driver, who's transporting a spoiled actress.
2) Caroline Suzanne (Rebecca De Mornay)-The spoiled actress
3) Paris (Amanda Peet)-a hooker with a good heart
4) Rhodes (Ray Liotta)-a cop transporting a criminal
5) Robert Maine(Jake Busey)-Rhodes' criminal
6) Larry (John Hawkes)-the owner of the motel that all of these characters end up at
7) Ginny-(Clea Duvall)-naive young teenager...
8) Lou (William Lee Scott)- with naive young teenager husband
9) Timmy York-young child who arrives with his parents
10) Alice York-Timmy's mother, who's in an accident
11) Mr. York-Timmy's stepfather
12) Malcolm Rivers (Gerry Schnauz from 'Unruhe' (X Files))-serial killer who, in a seperate plot, is being given a chance at a stay of execution.
13) Dr. Malick (Alfred Molina)-Rivers' psychiatrist, who is proving to the judge that Rivers has Dissasociative Identity Disorder.

These people (the first 11) all end up at the same motel, during a dark and stormy night.
Rivers and Dr. Malick are at a separate place, where the judge is hearing the evidence. Malick is convinced that Rivers was another personality when he committed the murders several years ago.

It's not a spoiler to tell you, the motel inhabitants start dying one by one.

This film had so many twists and turns, my mom said she was terribly confused. (smiles) It's a modern re-telling of Agatha Christie's classic Ten Little Indians. I've mentioned in writing before: I consider that story to be the template for all modern tales of suspense. 'Alien' was Ten Little Indians on a spaceship. Basically, there's a group, and they get killed off one by one. The book I speak of was intricate and mind-blowing to me when I read it in the sixth grade. I re-read it recently and I still love it.

This film, though, goes above and beyond. I won't spoil the twists, and how it's all connected, but it's a head-scratcher. I've seen it four times now and each time I understand new things. Every single thing is important, and you have to be alert. It's kind of like 'Twin Peaks' in that way. Everything is a clue.

It's a wonderful study in the human psyche. I highly recommend it.
Grade: A+, off the scales

In other news, don't bother with 'Date Movie' or 'Junebug.' We had rented these and Good Lord, were they stinkeroos. They get two Stinkaroos on Bean's Stinkaroo scale.
haha Bean made that up, and I must give her credit. 'Date Movie' tried very hard to be funny, and did give me one or two laughs. But mostly, we sat there wondering why it was ever made. 'Junebug' tried to be a very serious and poignant family drama, but I just couldn't get into it.

In still other news, 'Road to Nowhere' by the Talking Heads is one great song!
That's my first random comment of the day.

My second is:
I saw a bumper sticker that said, "Frodo Failed. Bush has the ring."
Classic!

Roads I don't want to be on
1) The Road to Damascus. God might pop out of the clouds and start talking to me, the way he did to Paul. I might s*** my britches.
2) The Yellow Brick Road. Tin men bother me. They need lots of WD-40.
3) The Road with a fork in it. I'd have to constantly ask, "Where's the spoon?"
4) The Crossroads. Robert Johnson had some troubles at this place. Selling his soul to the devil and all. What would I sell my soul for? Certain Star Wars figures, maybe? (Just Kidding)
5) The Long and Winding Road. I don't like long. Don't like winding. Case closed.

:)

Have a great day, All.

"Identity" is indeed an awesome flick. It surprised me too, because I wasn't expecting much. It was cool to see John Cusack in a scary flick.

Great review!

I LOVE that bumper sticker! I want one!

I saw identity a while back, and I agree that it was a good film. I think it was much better than most films where the characters die off one by one. I think that story line has been beaten to death.

Hey Work; Thanks for stopping by!

Yeah, I wanted to get that person's attention and give them a thumbs up for the bumper sticker.
