Hi All,
I'm normally a fan of horror movies, moreso the psychological types that scare you mentally, as opposed to the ones that are all blood and gore. I'm sure none of my readers are horror movie fans anyway, (certainly not YOU, Dee! Telling us that 'Saw' was the worst movie you've ever seen!) but in the odd event that any of you planned on renting 'Hostel' for some scares: DON'T!!! Don't even come within a hundred yards of this movie! It's so sick, it's not worth the time to say much about it. It involved a lot of torture. Let's just say that there are some truly disturbed and dark minds out there, and that they would even think of such ideas tells me that humanity as a whole is flying toward Armageddon, just asking it to come.
Okay, I've also been watching those shows on The History Channel about the End of Days. Several ancient predictors say that it'll happen in 2012. And the people at The History Channel are kind enough to point out that we've already had several 'false prophets' and signs of the end. It's not like in the old days, when God would just blink and Sodom and Gammorrah were gone. Amsterdam seems alive and well. (Everything I read tells me that Amsterdam is the modern-day Sodom: all sex, all the time.)
What makes me angriest about some of these horror movies is the tagline: 'Based on a true story.' Which is a complete lie! Every time! I've never recovered from the knowledge (I just learned last year) that 'The Amityville Horror' was fabricated. I believed that one since I was a child! That's what made it so scary! 'Texas Chainsaw' is the only one that has a grain of truth to it; based loosely on a real serial killer. But these others, like Hostel, that claim to be 'real' ('Exorcist' wasn't real either) just say such for the scare value. They're trying to sell a film, I understand. But it's not nice to put ideas in little kids' heads (I read the novel 'Amityville Horror' when I was pretty young. My parents apparently let me read whatever I wanted. And I gravitate toward creepy stuff.) that stay with them for life! Part of me still wants to believe Amityville. Heck, part of me wants to believe that Bloody Mary will appear in the mirror when I yell her name three times in the dark. haha
I think the scariest things are the things you don't see. Like the 'monster' on 'Lost,' who seems to have vanished from the island. We never saw it, until recently, and it was a much scarier show when we only heard it and saw its aftermath. I think the human imagination is much more effective than the eyes are.
Anyway, I spent most of 'Hostel' looking away and faithfully dialing the phone for Katherine McPhee. Bean wants her to win, and I think she has the best voice of the three left. And since Chris is gone...so we voted. Bean looked the whole time and said at the end it was lame and not very scary. But I just couldn't watch. I don't recommend that you do either.
Things I Said During 'Hostel'
1) I'm not looking!
2) What happened? I couldn't look.
3) I'm concentrating on McPhee over here!
4) Quentin Tarantino (producer) is one sick bastard.
5) Well, the movie had its effect. People are talking about it after!
Have a good day, All!

Try HARD CANDY, if you haven't yet. I saw it recently and it was pretty intense. Great character development, and the first movie I've ever had such a hard time deciding which one was truly the "bad guy".
