Another Sad Love Song

Hi All,
We were thoroughly bored with the Love Song category last night. I prefer upbeat, more fast-paced songs usually, unless it's a Tori Amos song, which, in that case, she can sing whatever she pleases! I thought the judges were really unfair and a bit tone deaf in their comments about Katherine McPhee. I hadn't really been a huge fan of hers before last night, but it became obvious to me that her voice is probably the best of those left, and she's very cute, and did a great job of 'I Have Nothing.' David Foster was killing us with the brutal honesty. I love brutal honesty! I wish they'd ban the singing of Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, or Mariah Carey songs, though, because every time someone sings one of those, they get the criticism, "It didn't compare to the original." These originals, according to AI judges, are the best singers ever. Please! Sure, Whitney had a great voice at one time. Ditto to Mariah and Celine (those two still have great voices). But they are not The Greatest Singers Ever To Live and No One Can Cover Them. Just becuase YOU can't touch them, Paula, it doesn't mean a young upstart can't.
All of that to say, I thought McPhee DID touch Whitney, and at least McPhee is not a drug-addicted, pathetic excuse for a human being. I love Chris as we know but I hate that Brian Adams song he sang. Toooo sappy. Bean was surpirsed and thought I would like sappy songs. Hmmph! I like some, I guess. I LOVE 'Unchained Melody,' and felt bad for poor little Kellie who once again had to sing an impossible song. She did alright, but needed to show more personality. And no one can really hit that high note like The Righteous Brothers. U2 did an amazing version of this song that you need to hear if you like this song. It was a rare B-side, but it's probably online someplace. Everything is online someplace.
In other news, because I am so sick of hearing about a certain couple who just had a baby, and their 'religion,' Scientology, I decided I need to be more educated. It's true I know very little about Scientology, and I will admit to being judgmental about it, probably without cause. I just have a hard time with any religion that does not have God at its center. From what I read on the official site it seems like a lot of self-help stuff. Which is fine. What intrigued me most was a sentence describing Scientology methods which help to take away unwanted thoughts. Being that I have unwanted thoughts all of the time, I'll do nearly anything at this point to figure out how to be rid of them. Therapy helped me to get rid of them once they get in there, and helped me to know how to deal with it all. But if there's some method that will stop them from ever getting in there, I'll listen. I don't think such a thing exists, but at the very least I'll get some good self-help advice, possibly. So I'd like to read 'Dianetics' and see what it's about. But I would never call anything my religion except Christianity. I read an interview with Madonna recently where she said she didn't know anything about Scientology, so she didn't feel she could attack it. And then she wondered why people don't attack Christians. Hello!? Maybe she meant Christian celebs? Of which there seem to be none? Christians, though, have been attacked for centuries. In some cases, rightfully so. The Church did not come together as God wanted, unfortunately. It's become an uncontollable force that leads far from its original intent.

But anyhow....if I learn anything useful, I'll have to share here. Right now, though, I'm still on 'Geisha.'

Things I Hope To Learn From 'Dianetics'
1) The secret to life, which I hope involves sugar
2) The PIN to Tom Cruise's ATM card
3) How to lose 70 pounds the way Kirstie Alley did
4) How to live with my rich self when others are destitute, a la Travolta et al
5) How to write self-help books

Have a great day!
