The best thing I watched while I was incapacitated, was this DVD. Bean and I will live our whole lives and regret that we missed this tour. In short: Madonna is the greatest entertainer of my lifetime, and her concerts are always AWESOME.
'Confessions on a Dance Floor,' in case you haven't heard it, is her best album. I'm partial to 'Like A Prayer,' always, because that album came out at the height of my Madonna-obsession. But every album since 'Bedtime Stories' has been better and better. Lyrically, Madonna is no Tori Amos. But, her lyrics seem to fit the music, which is always pop, dance, and rhythm.
In concert, Madonna is a showman(woman) extraordinairre. She started the 'dance troup' trend that Janet, Britney, and every other female pop artist copied. But her shows are more than just dancing and poppy music. She's very political these days (Hello, Angelina-wannabe), and is also very into Art, so you can expect political images like anti-Aids, anti-war, anti-religion. And you can expect artsy backdrops and routines borrowed from nearly every culture.
But what makes her unique is, she puts all of this together like no one else. The only ones close in terms of spectacle, that I have seen, would be U2 and Pink Floyd. Ok, Pink Floyd have the best light show I've ever seen. And U2 have the best crowd involvement I've ever seen. Followed closely by Metallica and Dave Matthews. But there's something more to Madonna. It's like seeing a Broadway show, a really great episode of American Bandstand, and the news all at once. And oh yeah. Madonna? Hell of a Stage Presence.
She enters and you just think: Wow. It's HER. Of course, I used to be mega-obsessed with Madonna, but she fell off that pedestal, only to land someplace in my psyche as a continuing source of comfort. I don't think she's a Goddess. I just think she kicks ass. haha
If you liked the last album, or if you just enjoy great concerts, you'd like this DVD/CD. The DVD quality is excellent, crystal clear and beautiful. All of the songs were tweaked a smidge for the concert, a plus. Madonna looks fab for 48. And still hangs in with the young dancers. God love her.

Have a great day!
