I read a number of books whilst I was away, and one of those was a book about Salvador Dali, my favorite painter (aside from my brother, of course, who is divinely talented). I love Dali's work because it looks like something out of a dream; a wonderful, weird, marvellous dream. Even his more realistic ones, look out-of-this-world to me. The book I bought has most of his paintings, along with background as to what each represents (according to...who?), and history about where he was in his life when he painted each. I never knew he had such Daddy Issues, but sadly, this made him very afraid of women and of sexual intercourse. As a result, a lot of his paintings were interpreted as commentaries on this.
I think art interpretation is like literary interpretation, though. It's great because it's all up to the viewer or the reader to interpret! So when I look at Dali's work, I see dreams and fantastic stories. I don't really see sexual imagery much, truth be told, unless I'm looking at Mapplethorpe or some such. More testament to my complete innocence. (haha; I'm not as innocent as I make out!)
Here's hoping you all see beautiful things here.

Have a great day!

I love Dali's stuff but I have to say I find Magritte and Max Ernst sexier by far, particularly the former. I wrote my final year paper on Magritte when I studied art at BCT in Brighton, and ended up becoming mildly obsessed with the painter, his work and his life story. Definitely worth checking out some of his more famous works like "The Restless Sleeper" and "Il Gioconde"

Peej!
From what I was able to find online, I definitely like Ernst also. I like all of the surrealists, probably. Me being a dreamer, and such. :)
Marty!
I am so glad you had a great trip! :) DR and I got to see Dali paintings at the Guggenheim during the Spanish painting exhibit; in fact, DR's favorite painting was a Dali! As always, you have great taste in art, Marty!

Thanks, Thursday. Bean told all of planet Earth that I was going to New York for a day, and all the world was excited for me. When I told her I never made it there, she was upset for me. I told her, "Well, The Fates have their own plans. I'll make it back there someday."
My next stop, has to be, England. I don't care if I have to work 5 jobs, I will save up and do it. I love to travel.
But what was this post about? Oh yeah...Art. Dali rocks. DR has good taste.
