In listening to 'Wintersong,' which I received for Christmas, I was reminded of what a brilliant, amazing singer/songwriter Sarah McLachlan is. I can now forgive her for that last album, whose title I don't even remember; it was THAT forgettable.
I'm not sure I've done the "If I were on a desert island" commentary, but there's two albums I could not live without: 'Little Earthquakes' and 'Fumbling Towards Ecstasy.' 'Fumbling' is...well, in a word, perfect. So is 'Surfacing,' for that matter.
So, here, my favorite Sarah Mac songs. I call her 'Mac' even though her name is not spelled that way, because for some reason I get a block and cannot spell 'McLachlan' half the time. ;)
Hail Canada! It sure has produced some incredible artists.
My Favorite Sarah Mac songs
1) Elsewhere. So sad! And one I really always loved for its haunting melody.
2) Possession. I always imagined really hot sex to this song. haha
3) Hold On. The first song I heard by Sarah. Poignant and moving.
4) Fear. Live, it was the best song she did. She hit the high note so perfectly, we all agreed we got chills.
5) Sweet Surrender. Indeed!
6) Building a Mystery. Any song about beautiful fucked up men, is a great one in my book.
7) Adia. Sarah turns all lesbian on us. haha Just Kidding. She tells this from the perspective of a man, she says. Sure. We saw you at Lilith Fair, Sarah. You and Sheryl Crow. ;)
8) The Path of Thorns (Terms). Also a great one live.
9) Vox. Oldie but a goodie.
10) Fumbling Towards Ecstasy. Aren't we all?
Covers:
1) What Child is This. Wow. I've got my 'perfect version' of that song now.
2) Song for a Winter's Night. Thursday was not kidding when she called the 'Wintersong' album 'melancholy.' I love it!
3) We Three Kings. I love The Barenaked Ladies too, and this song was just phenomenal. Thanks, Elf, for putting it on disc for me.
4) River. There's that melancholy again.
:)
I guess my dream tour would be Tori/Sarah. I might need a pillow, though. haha
I love 'em. But have to admit, they're all slow and moody. :)
Have a great day, All.
ps 2 days without chocolate. Life is stressful all of a sudden. haha

I think my cd of wintersong is already completely faded since I listened to it every waking second in my car since it was released. :) I love Sarah - what a great post, Marty!
Thursday!
I'm a long-time Sarah Mac fan. That voice! The moodiness! The lyrics! My kind of music.
I am a big fan of Mclachlan's gauzy sheen. I read a review of Wintersong where the reviewer said that the holiday songs had become McLachlanized. Which is a good thing! lol My two favorites of hers are "World On Fire" and that song she did with Delirium..."Silence."
