Weird Movies and Crucifixion Scenes

It's been an unsettling week for us. One of my close friends and the hardest worker in this department, was let go because she made a joke that offended one person. After 12 years of dedicated service with not one flaw on her record, she was let go. Have I mentioned that I don't understand the business world? Or office politics? Or life in general? So it's hard to be here and give these people anything. I can't stand dishonest people or people who do not appreciate others. And I see that all the time in any workplace. Makes no sense to me.

We went Old School and watched a film called 'The Hunger' over the weekend. This was an overly-artsy lesbian vampire flick. You read that right! Bean had read about it being a 'cult classic' and put it in our Netflix queue. It didn't make much sense, truth be told. Susan Sarandon and Catharine Deneuve had a pretty graphic lesbian love scene; I think that's what it's famous for. Reading imdb.com, it was about an Egyptian vampire (Deneuve) who lives off the blood of people until she grows tired of them. They then grow old and die. So Sarandon's character helps all of the old, dead (?) former lovers of this Egyptian vampire get revenge on her in the end. I think? It didn't really make sense, like I said. They all attacked her, but we heard her screaming from a coffin. And Sarandon somehow lived even though she was stabbed in the neck. ?? In a word...weird.

Much more straightforward was 'Failure to Launch.' Very predictable, and you know how it ended up. Sarah Jessica Parker did actually convince me she's someone besides Carrie Bradshaw. And Matthew McCougnahey is pretty nice to look at. So it was entertaining. If you're looking for a cute little romantic comedy (although I wouldn't say I laughed much), this might be your thing.

In World News, Madonna offended the Muslims, Jews, and Catholics by hanging on a cross during her concert. Thanks, Those That Were Offended, for giving her exactly what she wants! I don't understand people who get so easily offended. 'Family Guy,' 'The Simpsons,' and 'Amercian Dad' have MUCH more subversive stuff on their shows. And they're cartoons! And let's never forget 'South Park.' Anyway, I regret that I missed this tour. Looks like it was great, as usual.

I've been listening to Death Cab For Cutie a lot lately. 'Plans' is a great CD.
My favorite, musically and lyrically, has to be 'Soul Meets Body.'

I relate to these lyrics, so I'm posting them here.

Soul Meets Body

I want to live where soul meets body
And let the sun wrap its arms around me
And bathe my skin in water cool and cleansing
And feel, feel what its like to be new

Cause in my head there’s a greyhound station
Where I send my thoughts to far off destinations
So they may have a chance of finding a place
Where they’re far more suited than here

I cannot guess what we'll discover
We turn the dirt with our palms cupped like shovels
But I know our filthy hands can wash one another’s
And not one speck will remain

I do believe it’s true
That there are roads left in both of our shoes
If the silence takes you
Then I hope it takes me too
So brown eyes I hold you near
Cause you’re the only song I want to hear
A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere

Where soul meets body

(Death Cab for Cutie)

Have a great day!

Bravo, Marty. I am so tired from everyone being so offended by every damn little thing that I am almost too tired to type. Fellow bloggers totally went off these past few days and lost their cool; so disappointing. As for Madonna, whoever is offended must be six years old because she has done this stuff her entire career! Love this post, love you. Sorry so grumpy. Everyone has me grumpy today save you, Nekkid M, and my nephew! :)

Bloggers out of control? Wha???
Well, SOME of us 'never' lose our cool. (smiles)

And thanks for putting me in such good company!

How about "Bloggers Gone Wild"?

Death Cab for Cutie rocks. And yeah, Madonna and crucifix imagery go together like pb & j. Haven't we learned anything from Pepsi commercials? ;)
