It's All About Perspective

Hi All,
I was just thinking about how perspectives can differ from person to person. I picked up the new CD from The Dixie Chicks today, and so far it sounds very good. I can't believe three such talented people will forever be remembered as 'traitors.' It's all the most ridiculous thing, really. Natalie Maines was at a concert overseas and said, "I'm ashamed that President Bush is from Texas." That's what she said. Of course The Fundamentalist, Patriotic-Fanatic Republican South got offended. When Thomas Jefferson and company thought their 'leader,' King George III, was an embarrassment, they were immortalized as the Great Founding Fathers. And a great thing that they gave us was Freedom of Speech. When Bill Clinton made the mistake of getting caught doing bad things, he was almost impeached. When Bush and company create their own war and send our young men off to certain death, they're fine. In fact, God Forbid any of us with an IQ over 50 realize that Bush is, in reality, an idiot. There are entire page a day calendars out there with Bush quotes that are infantile and gramatically incorrect. I'd say that makes Bush a huge embarrassment.
So what's my perspective on Natalie Maines? I love her. And I love The Dixie Chicks. I never get political, but in this case, I had to say something.
Political issues aside-it seems the people who are angriest about this issue are The Bible Belt types. Even if you are offended by someone, your job as a Christian or an all-around decent person is to forgive and move on. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the God I believe in, Jesus Christ, told us to do 2 things above all else: Love Him, and Love Others As We Love Ourselves. That's 'love,' not, 'judge and hate people.' There's nothing worse than a hypocritical Christian. Once again giving us a bad name. Those Maines-haters must not practice Christianity. Which is fine; I respect their right not to.

But enough about that. In other news, the 'Lost' finale was last night. I was a bit let down. Sure, they answered some questions, which was nice. So we know now that they must push the button, or they'll all die from the magnetic anamoly. And that said anamoly crashed the plane. I thought the focus on Desmond was a bit slow and plodding. But there was a very interesting development: Michael and Walt have been given a boat and coordinates to get 'home.' Who wants to bet that they'll never make it? I think Desmond was right: you can't leave the island. No matter how hard you try. And our heroes Jack, Kate, and Sawyer are prisoners of 'The Others.' I predict a very interesting plot around their escape or their conversion into being one of 'The Others.' Sayid, Sun, and Jin are out there somewhere, too. And are Desmond, Locke, and Eko alive? After what looked like a A-bomb exploding, and the hatch being possibly destroyed, I'd say not. But, maybe that bright light wasn't an explosion and didn't kill Locke and Eko. But I'll bet they have different abilities after this, if they lived. Oh my. It'll be X Men on the island! I hope they give us some answers someday about Libby. I assume that her name is short for Elizabeth, the name she gave Desmond. But I still want to know what the deal was with the asylum. They really need to get back to that asylum. I think a lot's happening there. Ah, next season....

Things I Don't Get About Lost
1) These people tend to blindly listen to others. Desmond stayed in the hatch for 2 years without ever trying to go outside? What's that about?
2) Jack is one naive doc. Why does he never see things ahead of time, even when he is told?
3) Why did The Others let Kate go once before only to request her again?
4) Why were us message board readers the only ones who knew that Henry Gale was the leader of the others?
5) Why did Claire just magically take Charlie back? Did she forget that he went nutso and tried to 'baptize' her baby?

So many questions, so little time.....

1) Desmond thought there was a life-threatneing plague. 2-4) Plot writers got sloppy this year. 5) Ah, true love.

Yeah, a mix of disappointed and elation here. I think the writers never saw past episode 5 and have been pinching themselves ever since in disbelief.

As for anti-DixieChicks, I'm still pissed about the local country stations that refuse to play them because they were anti American. God forbid anyone have an opinion. The large section of this country are dragging us through a global nightmare and think religion backs them up. I can only think God himself is shaking his head at them and our early gullability. *sigh*

Nice assessment of the Dixie Chicks controversy. I've never been a big country fan, but I started noticing them around the time "Goodbye Earl" came out. And then when the big hoo-hah over her Bush comments hit, I just couldn't believe it. Since when did disliking the President mean you were disloyal? What really pissed me off was the hypocrisy it took to pull this off. After all, many of those people who were so upset with Natalie Maines probably said far worse things about President Clinton. Sooooo, it's okay to disagree with the President as long as he's not a Republican I guess, lol. And yes, you're right, many of those doing the criticizing are from the Bible Belt and yet their actions lead me to think that they never managed to read the darn thing!

(And I'm afraid I've never seen Lost. I hope to get caught up with the DVDs...so I skipped over the crucial info!)

FH: I know Desmond thought he was doing the right thing by staying in the hatch, but I just wished he's challenged his surroundings a bit more. If it were me, I'd be trying very hard to reach the outside world. I think the writers are making some of this up as they go along. ;)
And I agree, we seem to be under the spell of that one majority at the moment. I just hope there's a way out one day.
David: I agree all the way about the 'controversy.' It's really rather ridiulous. I just like their music, so until they start making crap records, I'll support them. Rent the first season of Lost so you can catch up! It's a great show; I think you'll get hooked if you watch it.
