I watched The Thorn Birds on DVD over the past week, which was a nice reminder that I am indeed, forever drawn to Grand Romantic Tales. I was ten when this aired originally; I don't think I quite ever got over Richard Chamberlain or the story itself. I'm reading the book now to compare the two. The movie was flawlessly cast, in every role. Rachel Ward was the perfect Meggie, and Richard the perfect tortured priest.
There's a thought...the tortured priest. In reality aren't all priests somewhat tortured? They have a hard job, I'll say. So much to bear on their all-too-human shoulders. I always loved the sadness that this movie had, as well as the hope.
Reading the novel, which is VERY well-written, has inspired me to finally get back to my third novel, Dark Run Lane. Of course, my story has no epic love story...but it does share some of the dysfunction in relationships.
If you haven't checked it out recently....check it out! The movie, I mean. Or the book. Both are excellent.
